Back on the convention floor

James Taylor!

I thought we were here to listen to the president accept the nomination. Instead, we're being treated to a James Taylor concert!

You've Got a Friend..,

So far this morning

I apologize for being MIA yesterday. I'll catch you up on it a little later.

It's been so busy and a little overwhelming. I got just three hours sleep this morning after a 21-hour day.

Today in the Women's Caucus meeting, we've heard from The Nanny, Fran Drescher; US Labor Secretary Hilda Solis; Director of the White House Office of Public Engagement, Christina Tchen; Lily Ledbetter; Representative John Lewis; and now, Dr Jill Biden and our own First Lady, Michelle Obama!

The word must not have gotten out that they're coming because the hall is half empty!

At the Woman's Caucus meeting

Looking around this hall gives so much hope for this country. It's filled with faces of every human color, female and male.

All with one heart and one purpose: moving this country forward toward liberty and justice for all.

Our strength is in our diversity and in our one heart.

After four hours of sleep

Our hotel doesn't have a space large enough to accommodate our group to have meals and meetings. So, they worked with local folks to erect a tent and feed all 84 delegates and the additional staff.

We're sitting in that tent outside our hotel enjoying a great breakfast and listening to Ohio Governor Ted Strickland talk about what success means to Democrats. You can tell he was a preacher. He remarked that upon driving up and seeing the tent that he got excited. He told his staff member "We're gonna have a tent revival today!"

We're getting the rest of the speech he wasn't able to deliver last night due to time constraints. I have to say, he's got our jet-lagged, tired butts out of our chairs multiple times at 8 in the morning!

I wish I had time to tell you everything he said but they've told us there's a surprise speaker and I gotta go!

So, the surprise guest was...

...somebody with whom Oregon State fans will be familiar. I was sitting here finishing up my last post when he arrived. I turned around and in walked Craig Robinson!

The place erupted! People were shouting, whistling (okay, that was me) and a few OSU chants were even heard.

Craig spoke for a few minutes, reiterating his sister's message of the previous night. The Obama and Robinson families know who we are because they grew up just like we did. They have lived and understand the struggles of the middle class so they're committed to helping us grow. They know that success of the nation is built upon the foundation of each individual's success.

Then he took a few questions from the audience. We learned how his kids and the ball team are doing. However, in my opinion the best question - and answer - was: is it true that Michelle slept on his sofa when she was visiting?

He said it was true but he wanted to clarify that she slept on the fold-out sofa bed. I don't know about you but I just can't ever imagine Ann Romney sleeping on a sofa bed!
